With a new virtual experience, Saint Charles is creating an innovative link between the real and digital worlds in retail.

In September 2019, Saint Charles opened its first store on Herrengasse in Vienna. As the little sister of the well-known Saint Charles Pharmacy, pharmacist Alexander Ehrmann and his partner Richard König thus designed the first Mono Brand Store, which exclusively offers Saint Charles products. The elegant downtown store offers a total of more than 300 products from the field of natural medicine and cosmetics, produced in their own manufacture. A journey for all the senses is offered on more than 15 solid oak chairs. The world of herbal medicine can be smelled, tasted or even felt here.

But the Saint Charles Store was also intended from the outset to provide a link to the digital world. Using an in-store touch screen, another 50 international partner brands are offered, which are either picked up directly from the store by Click & Collect or sent home by home delivery. Via the Saint Friends customer loyalty program, bonus points can be collected both in the Saint Charles online shop and in the store.

Due to the Corona crisis, however, the Saint Charles Store had to close its doors like most companies. For this reason, the company thought about how to offer the customer a shopping experience and decided to digitalize the entire store. This makes Saint Charles the first company in Vienna to offer the extraordinary opportunity to virtually visit the shop from home around the clock. Health tips, videos, exciting background stories and, of course, the possibility of direct shopping are all available at the click of a mouse.

The digitalisation was carried out in cooperation with the Viennese company Eyecandy using a 3D camera. A central platform was used to provide additional concrete information and links to products or subject areas, making the visit a digital experience. For example, tips from the pharmacist Alexander Ehrmann on how to support the immune system can be accessed, which is currently in great demand.

“With the digital store, we want to show how a connection between the real and the digital world can be established in retail without leaving the familiar visual environment. The shortcoming of the personal experience is countered by multimedia content and interesting content. And that 24 x 7,” says Richard König, co-founder and managing director of Saint Charles.

The Saint Charles Store in Vienna’s Herrengasse, like many other stores, will open its doors again from 14 April. The digital store will then continue to supplement the existing store opening hours and provide customers at home, but also international visitors, with new tips on health care and naturopathy on an ongoing basis.
