Krillöl: Maritime Omega-3 Quelle

Krill oil: Maritime source of omega-3

How the valuable oil of the mini shrimp strengthens our body all around and keeps us young

Krill - a miracle of nature. The mini-shrimp in the southern Arctic Ocean represents the largest biomass on earth with 500 to 700 million tonnes. Krill, Norwegian for "whale food", is not only an extremely adaptable survival artist, its deep red oil also contains numerous health-promoting active substances. First and foremost: omega-3 fatty acids. These unsaturated fats are essential for the human organism as counterparts to omega-6 and saturated fats. However, they have become scarce in today's diet. Due to a diet rich in omega-6, meat and eggs hardly contain any omega-3. Apart from krill oil, basically only fatty cold-water fish and linseed oil, as a vegan alternative, are good suppliers. Omega-3 has a positive effect on health in many ways. It prevents deposits in the blood vessels, improves the heart rhythm and the flowability of the blood, lowers high blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

For our brain, the omega-3 rich krill oil is the best fuel. Concentration and receptivity are increased, linguistic skills and learning ability are improved. Krill oil is therefore especially valuable for children and older people. During pregnancy, the oil promotes the intelligence of the unborn child, and during breastfeeding it dispels the "baby blues". This is because the omega-3 it contains stimulates the formation of the happiness messengers serotonin and dopamine and thus also helps with depression, ADHD, dyslexia, Parkinson's disease and anxiety. In addition, it is considered rejuvenating and life-prolonging, as it protects the chromosome ends and can thus slow down ageing. Omega-3 also counteracts inflammation, including autoimmune diseases such as rheumatism or colitis. It supports hormone production, the thyroid gland, cell metabolism, the building of body protein and the formation of the body's own defence cells. The prerequisite for all these positive effects is that enough omega-3 is ingested. Linseed oil is a suitable vegan alternative to krill oil, whereas fish oil has some disadvantages, such as unpleasant belching. High-quality, sustainably produced krill oil offers sufficient omega-3 even in smaller doses and is better absorbed and tolerated. Its natural colouring astaxanthin has a strong antioxidant effect, making it comparatively long-lasting.
