The cistus is probably the most polyphenol-rich plant in Europe and a true all-round talent. First references to the use of the herb date back to the 4th century BC. Despite its name, the cistus has nothing in common with roses, because the cistus is a small bush native to the Mediterranean region. The leaves of the shrub exude a herbaceous fragrance. This comes from the resin of the cistus, the ladanum. Cistus contributes to a normal function of the immune system. Cistus extract has a high polyphenol content, significantly higher than green tea, for example, and thus supports the immune system. In the Mediterranean region, the herb of the cistus has always been dried and used for warming teas during the colder months of the year.
