The latest scientific research, e.g. by Dr. Frank Madeo, University of Graz or Dr. Valter Longeo, University of California, confirms what Hippocrates of Kos (460-377 BC), the father of modern medicine, already taught. ), the father of modern medicine, taught: "He who wants to remain strong, healthy and young, be moderate, exercise the body, breathe pure air and heal his aches and pains by fasting rather than by medication."
Fasting purifies, activates the self-healing powers, strengthens the immune system and activates the self-cleansing process of the cells, autophagy. It supports clear thinking and helps with letting go. Useless cells, which accumulate over time and lead to disease, can be abolished in this way.
What happens in the body during fasting
During fasting, the body switches from energy programme 1 - nourishment from the outside - to energy programme 2 - nourishment from within. This process runs by itself. The voluntary decision to fast supports this switch to energy programme 2. "When fasting, we experience the surprising result that we are not hungry and are still very efficient", says the medically certified fasting guide Dr.phil. Eveline Egger. Fasting people gain an inner security that is always admired by those not familiar with fasting.
At Saint Charles, we know the meaning of fasting and the effect on our bodies. In 2018 and 2019, there was the Saint Charles accompanied urban Saint Charles fasting week hosted by Saint Charles. With the support of a certified fasting leader, in a group of like-minded people, there was the opportunity to participate in an accompanied fasting week. The fasting method used was the Buchinger/Lützner therapeutic fasting method.
The Buchinger/Lützner therapeutic fasting method
Dr. Otto Buchinger, internist, (1878-1966) studied medicine and fell ill with severe joint rheumatism in 1917. He underwent an almost three-week fasting cure with a colleague on a trial basis - with success. After the great healing success in the clinical field, Dr Buchinger devoted himself mainly to alternative naturopathy. In 1935, his most important work appeared: "Therapeutic Fasting and its Auxiliary Methods." He justified the effectiveness of therapeutic fasting by the fact that the organism is cleansed and the self-healing powers are activated.
Dr. Hellmut Lützner developed the basics for fasting for healthy people, a further development on the basis of therapeutic fasting, with his bestseller "Wie neugeboren durch Fasten" (How to be reborn through fasting).
Principles of fasting according to Dr. Buchinger
- Do not eat, only drink, this stops the production of digestive juices, hunger remains absent.
- Leave out everything that is not vital. Drink 2-3 litres, pure water and herbal tea.
- Detach yourself from everyday life. Instead of stimulus overload from outside - encounter with yourself.
- Do what the body demands. Movement in free nature.
- Encourage all excretions (intestines, kidneys, lungs, skin).
When fasting, it is important to remember: Renunciation does not take - renunciation gives!
