Cajeput (Melaleuca leucadendron), also known as the melaleuca tree, is native to Southeast Asia and Australia, now grown mainly in Madagascar and Indonesia. The name “cajeput” is derived from its Indonesian name, “kayu putih” or “white wood”. In Asia, oil from the cajeput has been used as a “cure-all” remedy for centuries. The smell of cajeput is described as being fresh with fruity undertones.
