The geranium, also called the scented-leaf pelargonium, originates from the South African steppe. The geranium also gained popularity in Europe as an ornamental bloom for gardens and parks. In popular belief geraniums are believed to keep evil spirits at bay. Geranium oil is used for skin care and in natural cosmetics due to its nurturing properties. The oil is also excellent as a room fragrance as it creates a fresh and harmonious atmosphere. The scent is described as rosy-sweet with a slight minty undertone.
