The cypress is mainly located in warm, Mediterranean regions and can often be found in Tuscany. The evergreen character of the tree (a sign of the continuation of life after death) is due to the fact that the cypress was consecrated by the ancient Egyptians and the Romans to the gods of death and the underworld. The herbal smell of the plant is greatly appreciated due to its cleansing characteristics and relaxing, refreshing effect. Cypress is used frequently in herbal medicine for colds and catarrh, muscle and joint complaints.
