A well-stocked first-aid kit is also part of preparing for a holiday. In our blog post "Checkliste Reiseapotheke" we have already compiled a detailed list of all the medicines that are essential for the usual cases such as minor injuries, sunburn, nausea or diarrhoea. Our pharmacists at the Saint Charles Pharmacy Vienna have now compiled a recommendation from nature's remedies for the most important areas of application when travelling.
No. 1: Black cumin for allergies
Even on holiday, one's allergies must not be forgotten. Those who rely on natural remedies or, ideally, prevention, will be well advised to use black cumin. Black cumin oil helps with inflammation and hypersensitivity and contains a variety of unsaturated fatty acids, essential oils, essential amino acids as well as vitamins and minerals. Among our customers, black cumin oil is considered the most popular natural remedy for hay fever and allergies.
No. 2: Cistus and star anise against colds
You should also always carry remedies for a cold in your first-aid kit. If you react immediately and take countermeasures at the first signs, you can often nip an approaching cold in the bud. Our pharmacists recommend star anise or cistus in these cases. Star anise is effective against both viruses and bacteria. Cistus, on the other hand, also has enormous antioxidant potential, protects against free radicals and inhibits inflammation.
No. 3: L-lysine for fever blisters
The strong sunlight in summer damages the skin barrier and, if the immune system is weakened, can cause unpopular herpes to appear in the form of fever blisters. An effective remedy against this is L-lysine. L-lysine contributes to the normal function of the immune system and the collagen formation of the skin. It protects cells from oxidative stress and helps fight the virus from within.
No. 4: Body's own melatonin for sleep disorders
Suffering from sleep disorders due to too much stress in everyday life, will not be automatically eliminated by a change of location on holiday. The body's own melatonin can help us to improve the quality of sleep and shorten the time it takes to fall asleep. In addition, plant extracts of African black bean, maca root, lemon balm and passion flower, which are rich in 5-HTP, provide support.
No. 5: Probiotic bacteria blend for constipation
The unfamiliar food on holiday can often lead to constipation. To build up and strengthen the gut before the holiday, our pharmacists recommend taking probiotic bacteria for bowel care. A mixture of probiotic bacteria helps digestion enormously.
