Benzoin – also known as styrax – is a precious, balsamic resin that has been burned as incense in many cultures for centuries. It seeps from the scored bark of the styrax tree and is then left to dry in the air. The balsamic resin is absorbed into small pieces of charcoal.
Its sweet, warm, balsamic scent settles softly in the room and creates an atmosphere of calm and security. Traditionally, benzoin is said to have a relaxing, balancing and cleansing effect – ideal for quiet evening rituals, meditation or for consciously arriving after a long day.
Charcoal soaked in Styrax officinalis balsam
Light the charcoal in a suitable vessel until it is fully glowing. Then place a little resin in the bowl or on the charcoal and let it smoulder. Briefly air the room afterwards.
Never leave incense smouldering unattended. Use only on a fire-resistant surface and at a sufficient distance from flammable materials. Ventilate well during and after burning. Keep out of the reach of children and pets. If you have asthma or sensitive airways, please dose carefully or refrain from burning incense. Not suitable for consumption.
